| Kilt ban overturned by Herald

A campaign in the Fraserburgh Herald won a reprieve on a kilt ban at graduations at Cambridge University.
The campaign captured the imagination of readers - and politicians - who sparked an outcry on the ban on all forms of national dress.
The Herald revealed in April that the university was tightening up on its dress code, which meant kilts – as well as saris and kimonos – would not be allowed at graduation ceremonies.
The ban sparked a wave of fury among Scottish students and led to the matter being raised in the House of Commons by Angus MP Mike Weir, who called on the university to have a re-think.
Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond and Banff MP Stewart Stevenson also backed the Herald campaign, which secured a turnaround to allow national dress to be worn.
