Is it a kilt if it doesn't have pleats?

I was just curious. My friends and I drool over this picture of Alan Rickman on a regular basis. My question is, is what he's wearing a kilt, since it doesn't have the pleats? Inquiring minds want to know

Looking at the edge of the back part, it looks like it does have pleats, so I think it's a kilt.

Certainly looks like a kilt to me Natalie, the pleats being only at the back. If they were at the front it would be a s***t!

No clue who Alan Rickman is...boy am I OLD!

But that's a kilt for sure from the pleats in the back, and in a very nice looking tartan...can't tell which though, perhaps a Thompson camel...??

oif pleats in the back, and just in the back then it s a kilt.
all the rest is not a kilt.

as pleats can be seen in the back on the pleats it s for sure a kilt. and i would bet that alan would just wear a kilt and not a skirt.
if we are talking about the actor, which i also love and didn´t knew that he wears kilts.
what is the story of the pic and thank for sharing it?

Alan Rickman's most famous roles are the bad guy in Die Hard, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Severus Snape in all the Harry Potter movies.

    Alan Rickman...

Don't forget his portrayal of Irish President Eamon Devalera in "Michael Collins" starring fellow kilt-wearer Liam Neeson.

    Cheers,

Thanks for all the answers guys, now please excuse me whilst I go have a heartattack due to the above quote :P
How can anyone not know who Alan Rickman is. Why he's practically worshipped on the girly forum I call home, and I'm the high prietess of "Rickmanism"
FYI: he was also in Dogma, Quigley Down Under, Love Actually, Truly Madly Deeply, and Galaxy Quest. But I wouldn't expect the average lay person to know much of "The Book of Alan"

I suppose the pic is merely a publicity shot. I just stumbled upon it on Google.
