    Kiltmakers in Punch-up

This report of an unfortunate incident on Edinburgh's Royal Mile appears in today's 'Evening News' in the city.

The notorious Gold Brothers (importers and retailers of 'tartan tat') have apparently been leafletting the public outside Geoffrey Nicholsby's [Geoffrey (Tailor) Ltd] premises on Castlehill - one might imagine they were attempting to poach his customers, but I was not there and cannot possibly comment!

[PS: I am sorry but I have realised that the title I gave this thread was both misleading and slightly sensational! The fact is that the fisticuffs involved an esteemed kiltmaker and the representatives of a much less respected retailer! My apologies.]

That is a real shame, I suppose it is just telling of the class of the perpetrator, and his employer. It is unfortunate that it has come to this, I hope Mr. Nicholsby is alright, and the perpetrator gets the full force of the law.

I was concerned when I read that Gold Bros had acquired the building and was even more concerned to read of this incident. One would hope that they would disassociate themselves from what happened.

But I wonder how they would react if their shops were leafleted on behalf of the quality shops!

"After the family bought the old reservoir building in May, Mr Nicholsby said he had "no concerns", but added: "We are the last stronghold of quality in the Royal Mile. It's become like Blackpool." "

Well he obviously forgot Hector Russell and Celtic Craft Centre when he made that statement.

If you saw the photos I posted a few days ago you will see there are plenty of customers for everybody just now. A sad day though when traders start resorting to violence and obviously Nicholsby must be feeling the pinch from this competition. No reason to be confronting people handing out leaflets all the same, he should really know better at his age. Next thing the baseball bats will be out and what then?

When I saw the title of this thread I laughed and thought to myself of a fist fight between the Gold brothers and the Nicholsby's. Quite expecting to see something else.

    This is an outright pity.

Oh, my! Those men (who hit the 60 year old) need to grow up!
Unfortunately, similar has happened around here...a man in Flint beat an elderly shop keeper with a hammer, killing her, so he could take some boots.
Will idiocy never cease to exist?

Looks as though the leaflet distibuters were too close to the competitor. Although it was apparently public domain, the intruder at the storefront seems to have been operating improperly. He should have been removed, even if it did require some force.
Good for Geoffrey Nicholsby's. May the free publicity be profitable to them and not the intruder.
