Cool kilts @ Rose Bowl Parade

I was flipping channels waiting for the hockey game to start [from Wrigley ] and there was a Highland Regimental style band from ?Liberty High School? and according to the commentary they are the only HS band to perform with the Coldstream Guard and for the Queen. They were wearing lovely red Regimental Doublets and the Pipers were kilted [I did not get a good look at the drum line] but the rest of the band was wearing pants [may have been trews, it was a long camera shot].
Apparently they were wearing authentic regimental buttons as well.
    cheers

Liberty High Grenadiers from around Bethlehem, PA. Here's a KTLA link to a video of their marching today.

Looks like some of the kilts are being worn mid calf length....okay, maybe not, hard to tell, might be those over the shoulder tartan thingies folks wear...

The Liberty High School Grenadier Band of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania runs several music programs. The Combined Band performs conventional marches, with bagpipe adaptations. When the pipes and drums perform on their own, it is bagpipe oriented music. The drummers that play in the pipe band wear their kilts while on a bagpipe oriented performance, and wear trousers for regular march and combined performances. The pipers range from beginner to very well versed. All strive for the best, and with the normal turnover of a high school, do an excellent job.
One of the drummers is a cousin, and enjoys the kilted performances.

    Bethlehem PA bands

As a Bethlehem native, I am proud of the two public High School Bands in Bethlehem. Beside the Liberty band we have Freedom High School Band. The Freedom Band has a American Revolution patriot style uniform. As a result of the Liberty band having a pipe and drum corps for many years, we have a lot of pipers who graduated from Liberty. Thus we have several pipe bands and many solo pipers to help us celebrate our Scottish heritage.

    Re the sound -
I've been in several different marching bands, and recording the music is always difficult. The instruments are spread out, and as they march past you get snippets of the total performance. I thought they sounded pretty good.

    And they looked great.

Must be a big school, that was quite a large contingent altogether.

    Well done!

I've always wanted to say this: "Oh, behave, that man!". And oh, to be back in high school!

I really enjoyed the video. It's great to see kids having fun and getting into their school bands. The buttons are worn the same way as the Coldstream Guards too!

That's great! There can't be many high school marching bands with pipers. That's really good exposure of kilts to high school students and the community. How has that affected the attitude of the general public towards the wearing of kilts?
