Just chanced upon this at BBC's the day in pictures, Tibetan Bagpipers celebrating the Dalai Lama's birthday.... looks like they are wearing something similar to a kilt to boot!

    Tibet...

I'm not surprised...the Gurkhas (in next-door Nepal) and the Sikhs have "adopted" the pipes (and tartan) thanks to their service in the British Army.

    Great photo!

    Cheers,

It's not just the Gurkhas and Sikhs! Many regiments raised in the South of India, in the former princely state of Mysore, for instance, have a great affinity for the pipes.

I wasn't specific enough there -- yes, the Indian Army itself has adopted the bagpipe. ;)

About six months ago I was visiting a college prof friend of mine and he teaches at the International Studies Program. When I walked out of his office a group of Northern Indians were there and they could identify my tartan. (I cannot remember which one I was wearing). Thanks for sharing Scotty!
