Laurel & Hardy in "Bonnie Scotland"

In this 1935 flick, our heroes travel to Scotland via cattle boat to claim an inheritance from "Uncle MacLaurel." There, they inadvertently enlist in a Highland regiment and are shipped off to India.

The between-wars Scottish uniforms look just right, complete with pith helmets (with hackles) for India service, khaki kilt aprons, the darker (presumably black & red) diced hose, and Short Model Lee Enfields.
In the barracks scene where the soldiers have their tunics off, you can clearly see how high the military kilts were/are worn. Some of the troops are wearing them at nipple level!

A funny movie, as are all the L & H pictures....

    Brian,
Did you see in on TV or have a copy? I checked Netflix and they don't list it.

Right you are Brian! Here's the link to purchase the DVD.

My Mum's uncle James Robertson would have been in India at that time. He was with the Kings Liverpool which had a regiment of kilted soldiers the Liverpool Scottish. That's him standing up.

    Great photo
Unfortunately I'm at work today and the Canadian Schedule has Joan Blondell day not Laurel and Hardy day.

Ah! When the world was still black and white. (I had my brother convinced for years that color hadn't existed before the 1950's- and then he asked Mom what life had been like before all the colors were invented. Mom always did ruin my fun. I wish he would have asked Dad instead.)

Absolutely fantastic!!!!, my all time favourite comedy duo, and who never fail to have me "in stiches"

"He told me not to listen to a word you said"....pricless!!

Anyone interested in the duo should read the book 'Babe', (Hardys' nickname from childhood)...a great read, but also very sad.

Thanks for the link to the clip of them dancing, it's been a long time since i saw that,..you just made my day, thank you!!

I'm sure you're very proud of your Great Uncle, and very proud of that photo,...the old 1908 pattern webbing is shown to great effect here, thanks for sharing that.
My Uncle served Burma in WWII, he was in the Gordon Highlanders, and was later captured.
    I just LOVE that photo!!!
