    North Channel KIlts

For those of you that live in the Great Northwest and get NWCN (Northwest Cable News) keep a lookout for North Channel Kilts' advert. It nice to see a local traditional kiltmaker advertizing on TV. For that matter, it's great seeing any kiltmakers advertizing in the U.S.

For those of you that do not get this channel because you live in a more civilized part of the world, their site can be reached at -

I hate the fact that there are no pictures of their kilts on their website. How do they expect to sell online if no one can see their product?

Lots of kiltmakers use stock pictures rather than pictures of their own products. Kinda sad really.

My first kilt was from NC. I have to admit, I'm not overly impresed. The stitching on the pleats started to unravel within 6 monthes. I'm pretty rough but come on...

    Cheers,
    Allen

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I have sent business their way and will continue to do so, but I won't purchase from them again. I'm not trying to give them a bad reputation.

    Re: NCKilts...

Allen, it may be that you have an earlier kilt. My Lennox was one of his earlier kilts, which did have similar issues, but all were repaired and upgraded with heavier-duty materials for free.

That said, I'd say that the Lennox kilt is better than my Armstrong, at least in initial quality. I needed to have the Armstrong redone a bit, since J Higgins didn't do things like stitch the bottom of the hem @ the end of the outer apron, where the fringe is, or provide enough holes on the straps so you could cinch it up. They also didn't use buttonhole thread for sewing on the buckles. I also noticed that the slot for the left buckle was starting to wear pretty badly. Started to look like the kilt was about to fall apart. He fixed all that was wrong with it for $5.00.

I've been pretty satisfied with North Channel. I just wish they'd update their website. It still shows my Lennox kilt @ $250. Got it for $150 in August of '02.

    Kilted John,
Unfortunately, I live in Denver. It would cost a small fortune to mail the kilt (with insurance and such). So, I repaired it myself(handstitched).

    Cheers,
    Allen
