    Obama tartan

Talk about jumping on the bandwagon - still I suppose it would be good for business - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7838208.stm

It would have to "change" so I guess he could make it out of flip-flops!!!

How about seeing President Obama in a kilt when he visits Scotland?

I wonder if any US President has ever worn a kilt?

How cool, had no clue he had Scottish ancestry.

Saw a LOT of tartans at the preinaugural program on HBO but they were scarfs and Pete Seeger's tartan shirt...but nice to see some.

He's already shown cultural sensitivity by wearing the cultural outfits of various places he has visited over the years. I could easily see him doing such.

My wife and I were discussing that very same thing during the inauguration.

Kilt wearing in Scotland is, alas, a fairly minor activity most of the time and cultural sensitivity might not come into it, especially if the first minister is not a known habitual kilt wearer and neither are MSPs.

If President Obama were to attend something like a highland games when visiting Scotland then the greater presence of kilts could be a good occasion to be "sensitive".

Correlations to Idi Amin would likely prevent such an event. Public displays like this are very carefully orchestrated and have proven to be used against a person more than helping them.
