TartanHiker and CajunScot, I'm hijacking a little bit here. Where abouts are ya'll from? I was born in Monroe and spent my high school years in Ferriday, and then lived a few years in Baton Rouge before moving to Fort Worth. My parents and one of my brothers live in New Iberia. My other brother lives in Yellville, AR.

My wife is from Metairie, and I was at LSU for 5 years. Lived in Baton Rouge 7 years total and in Creole for one year working for LA Wildlife and Fisheries. I actually grew up in coastal North Carolina, so it wasn't a huge jump to the Cajun lifestyle, although it took me a while to bring myself to boil shrimp with the heads on! 
Dated a girl from New Iberia. Man, was she something!

Dean | I'm actually Cajun "by the ring and by the back door", Dean. My wife is Cajun (Melancon). Her family is originally from the German Coast, although her mother's mother was a Creole from NOLA.

Todd | My brother can claim himself Cajun the same way. He married an Arceneaux from Eunice. I love the Cajun culture (cuisine, music, etc...). Of course, there's a celtic connection as I understand the cajuns are originally from Britanny via Acadia.

Sounds like a great take on the supper. Its nice to have traditions, but also nice to make them something important to you personaly.

Dean | Actually, most of the Cajuns were originally from Poitou in France, not Brittany. You will find some Irish and Scots who intermarried with the Cajuns, though.
Ed Miller and I were discussing using Boudin Blanc as a substitute Haggis last evening at the Eureka Springs Burns Supper. He was quite favourable towards the idea!
