I don't know what the name of it was, but it was a really good movie. On par with "Zulu" and "Dirty Dozen". Great movie and one that had humor and historical fact in it all together. If any one knows the name of it, please share, I just caught it on tv and never got the title.
There was 1968 Devil's Brigade with William holden and Cliff Robertson.
    The Grant.

There used to be a very good article on the web site canadiansoldiers.com that dealt with the movie The Devil's Brigade regarding its historical accuracy. Your reference to "The Dirty Dozen" is very germane, as one of the points of the article was that the Americans of the 1st SSF were not like the "Dirty Dozen" of the book and movie which is shown ad nauseum on TCM and AMC this time of year.

Richard Dawson wore a kilt and got in a knock-down with some lumberjacks at the local bar. It was hilarious.
