Rough translation:

A noted Minister invited to preach at a country kirk was asked by the beadle 'Have you written your sermon?'

When the reverend gentleman replied that he had, the beadle exclaimed -

'I'm really glad because when you folk come here with paper we know the sermon will end at the end of the paper but when you come here with no paper the good Lorn himself has no idea when you're likely to finish!'

Truth is in the paperwork. When I step to the podium to do the days reading, my fellow congregants look to see how many sheets are in my hand. They have learned not to groan at two or three as I print them out in LARGE font to compensate for my eyesight. The first time I did the reading you could hear the groan up front.
