    The Day Lincoln was shot

Today marks the anniversary of John Wilkes Booth's shooting of President Lincoln. He lingered in a coma till 7:22 the next morning.

It seems that his presidency remains as controversial now as it was then.

I'll try to steer this thread away from controversy, and point out a book published last year about Lincoln and Robert Burns:

Cool connection! The author's premise makes a lot of sense.

And I hope that we can at least honor Lincoln's commitment to serving his country to the best of his ability.

I don't think it has, and I'm about as "Yankee" as they come.

I have a book that seems to be pretty good for looking up Lincoln facts vs. myths, "Did Lincoln Own Slaves? And Other Frequently Asked Questions," by Gerald J. Prokopowicz: 2008. All kinds of interesting Lincoln related information in it.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Spookily enough I have a photo that I took in 2005 of Abe inside his memorial as my current computer wallpaper!

What is a neo-confederalist and, for that matter, what is a confederalist?

In the most respectful manner I can muster, I would like to know why it's acceptable to "honor" Lincoln and his actions/agenda on this forum, but any opposing viewpoint is considered "political" and subject to moderation. I think it's a fair question.

Isn't this entire subject doomed to get political?
