Got my wisdom teeth removed this morning

And I was higher than a hippie on that medication that they put you out on. I kept crying about wanting to see my teeth and wanting to say thank you to the doctor who removed them. And then apparently I kept smiling (as much as I could) and saying "I love surgery".

Dont love surgery right now, thats for sure. But, the good news is that I started reading a book about Scots-Irish immigrants to America who have contributed a lot to American culture. My aunt bought it for me for Christmas and its pretty good so far.

anybody else had their wisdom teeth removed? Im terrified of getting dry socket so Ive been worried about eating and drinking. I dont really know what that is or how to properly swallow my food so I dont make that suction in my mouth.

thanks Father Bill Its not so bad at the moment. Thankfully, I only had 3 (2 on top and 1 on the bottom right) so only half of my face is puffy...and the two were already on their way out of the gums so those were an easy removal. It was the bottom one that had to be surgically cut out of my gums. That one I can feel a bit, but my medicine is very strong so its not intolerable. It was a few hours ago but I just woke up from a nap and cant feel much.

I had all four of mine out around age 50. I remember thinking, "they get $90 apiece for that?!" I guess it would be a lot more today.

Use your recuperation time well - read that book. Get them to take care of you! Enjoy what you can. Two months from now you will hardly remember it.

I've had several teeth out, but I've never had any dry sockets, so I can't say what it would take to make it happen. I do know that all it is, is when you suck too hard directly on the empty tooth hole and you wind up pulling the plug out of it. I can't imagine that it's very pleasant.

Fun Anecdote: When I had my wisdom teeth out, the dentist put me on the nitrous oxide and then left the room for a minute. When he came back, he asked if I was feeling it yet. I didn't feel anything so he turned it up a little and left again. Couple minutes later he comes back and, same deal. I didn't feel it, so he turns it up again and leaves. When he came back, and I still didn't feel anything he realized the tank was empty. So he changed the tank out, put the mask back on me and left, but forgot to turn the regulator back down.

I'm pretty sure if I'd been any higher from that stuff, I would've started hallucinating.

Anyways, Spagetti-o's and yogurt for a couple days and then work your way back up to your favorites.

Just remember to be gentle when you rinse your mouth out (as in, put it in your mouth and sort of shake your head back and forth) and you'll be fine.

LOL thats pretty funny, Steve. They turned the gas on me and the mask was pretty big and the gas kept going out the sides of the mask. I was scared that it wouldnt kick in. Once she put the IV into my arm and she put a little vasoline on my lips, I was completely knocked out. In my mind, the entire thing lasted 5 minutes.

I had some spaghetti-o's this morning and one of them got lodged between my cheek and my teeth but I thought it was in my wound spot. I was too scared to touch it with my tongue so I just started whining about it until I finally got it out. No more spaghettios for me for a few days. lol. I dont want them to get stick on my stitches

haha yeah its about $200+ per tooth now plus all the extra stuff. My entire procedure was $1100 before insurance.

Got mine done while in college prep school (Texas Military Institute); had to have all 4 out via oral surgery and they used sodium pentothal for the anesthetic. Ah yes, the old "truth serum".

Knowing that people are prone to loquacity under its influence and that I could later deny any memory of it, I made a point on awakening in the recovery room to tell my grandmother, with whom I was boarding while going to school, just what I thought of her in the most profane language I could come up with. (Let's just say I didn't like being there.)

My only other memory of that was of vomiting blood all over her front lawn on the way from her car into the house.

There was a lot of fragmentation during the surgery. . .I had little shards and slivers occasionally working their way to the surface for 30 years or so.
