HDR Photos anyone?

OK,
So I have just recently started into the whole photography thing when my dad gave me his older Sony MVC-CD500. I have always wanted to do HDR photos, so I just started doing it..what the heck. Check out my gallery on FLIKR:

OK I'll bite, haven't a clue what HDR stands for although High, Definition, and Resolution all seem likely. . . love some of the effects, very painterly if that's a word.

According to Wiki:

In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.

Interesting effect.

Am I on the right forum??? Seriously, nice photos! To be honest, I don't much care for most HDR work since contrast is sooooo important to a photograph's impact. I'm a bigger fan of blended exposures to increase dynamic range.

But that's just me.

I'm guessing that's what this might be.

I am trying to recall where I first found this - but I know that it is the photographer's self-portrait. Wish someone would take one of me like this...

I've done a bit of HDR. Not easy. Maybe I'll try it again when I have more time to dedicate to it. It's also doesn't appeal to everyone's tastes I find. I think it's interesting but I wouldn't want ALL photography to be HDR either.

Ah the chiaroscuro school of photography - it needs a seriously good eye and light touch, but the result can be one of those images that call you back for another look.

It elevates photography into the realms of art - though the image Rex posted is rather lacking in knee exposure.
