Help: in US, purchasing from overseas
I'm looking for help to complete an online kilt purchase. The form is mostly what I've come to expect, but after requesting the credit card/security code/expiry date, it's asking me for a Start Date. I've never seen this item on a sales form and have no idea what it refers to, but I can't close out the purchase without filling it in.
Anybody have a clue about the information they want?

On this side of the Atlantic it is quite usual to ask for the details that you mention PLUS the start date. On our (my) credit cards we have two dates The Start Date(in other words the date the card was issued) and the expiry date.Start date = Issue date. Does this help?

None of my cards (nor statements) has an issue date. I think I should contact the company and ask for advice about completing the purchase. Thanks!

It should just be the month and year that the card was issued to you. Some cards have it on them, some don't. It's usually right next to the expiration date...for instance, I've had a couple cards in the past that would say something like this:
Valid: 05/04-05/06, or something along those lines. In that case, the "start" date would be 05-2004.
Your best bet might be to call the seller and ask them what they want you to put down. If they aren't used to dealing with international sales, then they should call the credit card company themselves and ask them what they should do in this case (don't let them put all the work on you....you're the customer after all, and they should be able to call their credit card processing company with questions like this anyway.)

Me too. That procedure doesn't sound right.

I had a look at a US card I have here and it has a 'valid from' date. I would think that would be it.

The only time I ran into this question was on a UK site, and there was a check box for U.S. issued card on the previous screen. I went back and checked the box, then the question went away.
