Nice to find we had a visitor in the middle of the night

Went to my parents house this morning to go deer hunting and stumbled upon some interesting tracks....

Seems we had a decent sized black bear wonder though my parent's backyard and around their neighbors. Tore up an old tree next to the neighbor's house going after bugs, but left their rabbit cages alone. Haven't had proof of a bear this close to my parents in years, very exciting

Yeah, my parent's neighbors are not too thrilled.... 'Course in Reston they have developed so much you end up getting all kinds of interesting wildlife wondering through people's yards. I have pictures somewhere of a mama and cubs wondering past the condo's at my brother's sister in law's place in Reston. Beautiful area, been to the big mall there in Tyson's Corner a few times.

We get the occasional bear around here. Most of them are ones that come down from the Mtns. looking for a snack.

Armageddon was yesterday. Today we have real problem.

We have one roaming the neighborhood these past few weeks. I saw him the last week (about 10 feet from me on a path). Just a little guy. It's likely his first time away from Mom and it's been so mild out that the bears don't hibernate until mid December it seems. We are very suburban, but have bears and coyotes all the time. Only a few cougars in the near by parks in the last few years though.

My brother can't have bird feeders in the fall, until the furballs hunker down for their naps.

Haven't seen any on my side of the valley, but I've seen a few while traveling.

I think I will avoid visiting that area until hibernation sets in. On second thoughts, it is probably a bit cold around then. I think I will head for somewhere warm instead.
