Whether Bill Millin wore the kilt at Normandy has been a matter of question since he published his bio. Certainly, you are aware of the dispute in the UK about what pipes he played. All I did was ask questions about sources and in no way did I put your reputation in doubt as a reputable historian. Unfortunately, history is not always the truth; so, it's always up for questioning in regard to sources and spins. You made reference to some good sources about wearing the kilt during WWII, and I accepted it as the gospel. What more do you want?

I hope that some of the earlier "discussions" regarding this story will not detract from the acts of bravery shown by Piper Millin and his comrades. My father and his friends would have been able to answer these questions first hand. Sadly they are no longer around to tell.

I don't think so; Millin's bravery is one of the reasons why we're still discussing him and what he wore (or didn't) on 6 June 1944.

The late George Macdonald Fraser had a similar story in his McAuslan series about the sergeant's mess of the Gordons debating which tune Piper Findlater played on the Heights of Dargai. It's my all-time favourite of Fraser's stories.
