Portrait of the Kiltie as a Young Man...

A comment by String in her post about Kilt Culture got me thinking...

...she mentioned John Singleton Copley...an artist who's work I was not really crazy about until I really looked long and hard at a couple of his actual paintings in a couple of the museums that I've been to in the past few years. My opinion changed dramatically. It's great to be able to revise one's thinking once in a while and to re-discover that things that you may have rejected in the past actually have value to you now.

So...if you, members of the Kilted Multitude, could have your portrait painted by any artist worldwide, time-wide....who would it be? Which artist would best represent your self-image?

I'm goin' with John Singer Sargent.

Hmm, Copley is one of my favorites I'll admit. Mostly because of his attention to detail and texture. He's an 18th century clothing researcher's dream because of his obsession with fashion and fabrics.

I like Sargent for the late 19th/early 20th century; Copley was great for the late 18th early 19th century.

Oh, come on...no takers for DaVinci or Caravaggio? I was sure that I'd get a few Imressionists and Post-Impressionists here....Van Gogh, anybody?

A Holbein depicting me majestically a' la Henry VIII would be nice. I'm really a very humble person - actually I'm extremely proud of my humbleness.....

I would have loved to be painted by El Greco. I'd look a hundred pounds lighter!
