Scotland's NHS

I was talking to Pour1Malt regarding businesses in Scotland, and he mentioned that it can be difficult for non-UK citizens to get a visa. Which started me thinking about coming in the back door, as it were. Does anyone know if Scotland's facing a nursing shortage? Are there hospitals in the highlands which would sponsor a nurse with Emergency Department experience?

I know some people get their start on cruise ships. What about a (US) line based in the UK?

If you can jump through all the hoops necessary to get a work permit, you're off to a good start.

Well, there is a big shortage of nurses. And your experience could help if you could get a sponsor.
But they have to prove to the visa dept that no one locally has the skills/can be trained before they will allow you.
Worth trying, though.

Arlen, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the opening also has to be made available to residents of the EU before it can be made available to a 'migrant'.

That reminds me of a key component to include in your cv/resume: willing to train locals to take over my job. It's actually compulsory in some places.

Mr MacDougall,
There are travel nurse companies that will place you anywhere in Great Britain and Ireland in the ER once you have a solid year of Stateside exp. You should check into that first, because the company places you and greases the wheels of government. But be warned Nursing practice in the UK isn't as advanced as here.
