    Skype

I was wondering as I'm getting a new computer about getting Skype. Is it as easy as their website says ?

Are there any Skype users here that can tell a little about it ?

    Do I need a webcamera ?

    I suppose a headset is needed ?

How do you find a persons number ?

    Yes.

    > Are there any Skype users here that can tell a little about it ?

I used it for a little while last summer. It works fine, but I am not one for yakking on the phone. This thing encourages talking, and that might eat into your time.

    > Do I need a webcamera ?

Pretty sure web cameras are not supported.

    > I suppose a headset is needed ?

Absolutely. You'll go nuts trying to use speakers and mike: unacceptable levels of feedback.

    > How do you find a persons number ?

    Can't remember.

Give it a shot. Headsets are only about $30.

I have limited experience and have used it on two occassions...once talking with Graham. The first part of our conversation was OK but a minute into it...it broke up and we resorted to hard line.
I have a cell phone that does email, web browseing etc. so I installed the pocket PC version and it is connected to my computer via hard line or bluetooth. I use the headset provided with the pocket PC and that works well.
There is a free version of Skype that I use.
As for contacts you can do a search or people can give you their ID. Mine is Rkilts...when you go online and log in for Skype it will inform you if your contacts are online and you can call them. Their computer rings and they can answer if they choose to do so.
A headset is advisable to stop any feedback.
That's the extent of my knowledge on Skype...Kilts I know more

Before you do the Skype thing, give this a try:

    Gizmo

It's free, multiplatform, and works really well!

P.S. Just a blog that compares the two:

    Skype vs. Gizmo
