Go for it !

I had to start a diet too. Since late October-early November, I've lost 8 kilos (about 18 lbs) and I'm still doing an average of about 2lbs a week (inshallah !)

Long way to go, but trousers I had tailored just before Eid-al-Adha (just after I started) are now slack and look like a bag tied at the top !

Count me in!

I already started this last week (well, tried to, more on that in a min...), but I am definitely in for at least 35 pounds! I am somewhere in the mid 220's right now. Before I started med school I went from 225 to 195 in about 6 weeks with a fairly strict diet and an intense swim workout every day. A year and a half later the weight is back
So, I went to the gym last week on Monday, and I thought, hey, lets do some cardio and run on the treadmill... I ran a couple miles, pushed some weights, went home. That night I noticed that my right foot was sore. I stretched it out thinking it may be a muscle spasm. One week later, still just as painful, and I am pretty sure I have a stress fracture Talk about a downer... Moral of the story, start out slow, and don't overdue it!!!
So, I am definitely in! I will have to concentrate on diet until I can use this stupid foot again....
Good luck, I will post progress (I think we all should!)

So where do I put my hands??
Get into a normal pushup position with your thumbs and forefingers forming the diamond right below your face, and then slide your hands about 8 inches or so in front of you. (If you still can't visualize it, I'll post pictures- I'm not exactly sure how to describe it! I did struggle with this one in my description!)

It also just occured to me that I should also mention that you should do the 30 second workout every other day until you build up those muscles. The muscles in your abdomine heal quickly, but your arms will be sore the next day and will need time to heal. I personally do it every day, but I've been doing it now for almost 8 months. Take it slowly at first.

I don't like the BMI - it doesn't take into account muscle mass or bone density. There are professional athletes whose BMI's say they're morbidly obese, but they have less than 5% body fat!

I have a 'spare tire' - not a big one, but it's there, so I am overwight. My BMI is about 31.8 - in the obese range - but I also wear a 44S jacket and have a 36" waist. Does that sound obese? In order to get to the 'healthy' range, I have to slim back down to what I weighed in high school, which is NOT going to happen. I have put on too much muscle to do that. (I did some weightlifting in college and really increased my upper body strength.) So, don't think BMI is the be-all and end-all measurement. It's just the starting point to make you find out more about your percentage body fat.

I lost 10 pounds between April and October this past year (mostly through portion control), and I want to lose at least 10-15 more, so count me in.

It is on! Join the Social Group

ForresterModern had a great idea of starting a Social Group here on XMTS

10% Challenge Getting Fit so the Kilt will fit!

Everyone is invited even if you only want to lose a few pounds.

Let's see where it goes.

So far I've got away without exercise ! But now the weight's beginning to go, my wife and I have started going to a local live music/disco pub to dance like maniacs. A lot less boring than jogging.

The band breaks into James Brown’s “I Feel Good” when they see me arrive, so I can get it on down ! LOL !

Good luck to you!
I lost 10% in 2 weeks... but I was only around 180 back then. I'm plenty more than that now and I plan to equal that at some point in the near future... I'm going to have the problem of some kilts being too large when I do though!

Amen Rex! Great points. Good luck to your in your battle, it is lifelong and we are lucky to have the life part.

Okay, I'm in for a pound (or 25 in my case). My wife and I both have been discussing this very thing after the holidays (Spending Christmas through New Years with the in-laws and LOTS of snack foods) I find that the most difficult part of a weight loss program is finding encouragement. I expect that will not be a problem with this bunch of guys (and gals).
