Surgery at last!

Wishes of the best of luck are sent, all fingers and toes crossed, and all available candles are lit, for you and your well-being. Get well quick my friend, as this place will not be the same without you. But your absence will be an excuse for us all to throw an internet party upon your return in good health and spirits. Speaking of spirits, will tip a glass of my finest to you as well.

Hamish, we are saying a prayer for skilled surgeons and a speedy recovery. It definately won't be the same without your presence here with us, but that will make your return all the better. While you're away we'll do our best to Keep Calm and Carry On.

As Hamish's nearby friend, I was able to take him to the hospital today, ready for his operation this afternoon. We were there by 10:50am. We went through all the admission procedures up to the point of seeing the registrar surgeon who will do the job. Things were going slowly, but we expected Hamish in theater at around 2:00pm. Then came the message that theater was running late.

Then the surgeon came to see us to say that there had been a couple of emergencies that had taken far longer than expected and completely thrown the schedule. Apparently a whole team were ingaged in saving lives as he spoke. I have met this man before and I'm sure he was telling the exact truth. He was not keen on starting major surgery as late in the day as was likely because of the risk of reduced support services from other departments.

The result is that rather than go home tonight to return in the morning and go through the whole admission process all over again, they are keeping Hamish there overnight and he is first on the list tomorrow (Friday) at about 8:30am. I'm to call at about midday for news and should be able to see him at round 3:00pm.

Hamish is being stoical as always. It's not the greatest news, but there are so many ways it could be worse. That's all I have for now. More when I have it.

Thanks for the update Jim. Not the most wonderful thing for Hamish to have to wait yet another day but as you said there are worse things.

This sounds like the hospital here in Carroll County. My wife was set up for a cardiac cath and due to an emergency , the team was sent to the ER. We waited and waited.
She stayed overnight and I had to go home. She was ok after the procedure, just as Hamish will be when they operate. All in due time.

Thanks for the update. Please give Hamish our best wishes....
Also, surgery is one of those activities you want the staff person alert for.....surgery in the morning is infinitely preferable to surgery in the late afternoon (although the delay is understandably frustrating).
