    Tuxes...

    I normally wear a kilt for formal affairs. I dont have a P.C. as of yet, but I do have a nice argyle and vest. However, for a possible Masonic events in the future; our W.M. is kilt friendly and says it fine to wear for formal events to our lodge, and one of the Past Masters was a kilty as well. But from what I hear for Grand Lodge events tuxes are required for whatever reason. Its my opinion and I would assume the opinion of most of us in here that a formal kilt, is much nicer and more formal than an ordinary tux, by far. Its my guess theres not enough kilties in Hawaii to plead our cause. But reguarless, I may as well look into ebaying a tux for the rare occasion I may need one. So my question is two-fold...

    1) has anyone in here baught an ebay tux? and are they o.k? I know they wont be great.

    2) I think that I would like a bow tie and cumberbun or tux vest in my tartan if I'm required to be tuxed. Anyone know where I could find them for a good price? Ebays a little shotty when it comes to that type of thing.

    I guess there may be a 3rd option, I believe that Frugal corner sales the "universal masonic tartan" acrylic fabric by the yard. I could possibly make these things from a piece of that I guess. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks guys

    While stationed in Hawaii, a member then of Schofield Lodge, when the dress code called for tuxedo, I always wore a kilt and a PC. I never asked if it was OK, I just wore it.

    I now live in California and continue this reasoning. When a tuxedo is called for, I wear my PC.

    No problems!!!

    There are many ways to get a PC without spending a bundle! One good way is to get an ex-rental tail coat and cut it down into a PC.

    You should be able to do this for well under $100.00 :

    Ex-rental coat = $30
    Alterations = $40

    Class coat = $70

    Go for it!

    Thanks Bro. Any idea where to find an ex-rental? I've seen a few PCs on ebay in the $150 range, but I dont know it I want to shell out $150 for a low quality P.C. At any rate, the argyle and vest will work fine for now, I know its not as formal, but it still looks a lot nicer than most tuxes I see.

    Check out the DIY thread. Several of us have made PC's by converting ex-rental tail coats.

    Check the Monkeysuits Ebay store for tailcoats to convert.

    USA Kilts is still running a special on PC and vest for $300.
