Cajun Irish
Last night the Celtic Students Union at Beloit College held a Halfway to St. Patrick's Day party. That same night was a Beau Soleil concert on campus. Beau Soleil is a great Cajun band. I have 3 of the albums and they are absolutely fantastic. Well, we were playing at our session at the pub and in walked the guys from Beau Soleil! They sat down and listened for awhile, but after a few minutes I had to go talk to them. I told them how I loved their music and whatnot, and they said "Yeah, you guys aren't half-bad either!" Apparently the accordion player and fiddler in the band play Irish music! They joined in and WOW! were they great. They were flying through sets. Absolutely amazing. Initially, we were only going to have the session run from 10-midnight, but we ended up playing until bar close. It was fantastic. Definitely a night I will not forget.

Very cool! I've seen BeauSoleil a couple of times and they put on a great show! And I'm extremely impressed with any musician who can sit in and fly through sets at a session. I've been playing guitar for 40 years, but can barely call myself a fledgling backer. I've been working on building my ITM chops for about 4 years--first by learning the tunes... Those seemingly simple diddly tunes aren't so simple! And backing them ain't no walk in the park. Have to admit I'm still a public session virgin, but one of these days...
