    Smile Found a pipe instructor...

Very excited. I didn't think there was an instructor within a decent distance for me. I found him through a search engine. I just need to get a chanter now. We decided, due to logistics, 1 or 2 lessons a month would work out for me.

Good luck with the pipe lessons. I have a practice set that we picked up in Scotland in '98. More of a toy, with fake drones and a cheap bag, but the chanter did have a real reed. I haven't messed with it for quite awhile, but may do so in the future.

    Congrats man!
I'm not a piper, but I am a Scottish side drummer and just let me be the first to offer you this advice: Just keep plugging away at it. It may seem like you'll never "get it" or progress, but it happens slowly but surely, you'll be playing before you know it. All it takes is effort.

I remember when I started going to see my current private instructor, it was a real epiphany. I'm almost OCD about how I practice now. Everytime I go it just re-energizes my passion for playing.

Anyway, welcome to a great hobby! And one that definitely encourages kilt wearing!

Oh yeah, everyone check this out! If it doesn't give you chills, well, then there's something wrong with you!

Congratulations TB! It will be time well spent I'm sure.

I have relatives that live in Lubbock.

OK Bradley I admire anyone in music. That is because I have no talent at all Please give a post on your progress. When you feel up to it, I'd like a video posted of you playing. And, my friend, I am NOT teasing about that.

Good luck. I've been thinking about getting a chanter and trying it out myself. Let us know how it goes.

    TB,

Like Dirk Skene, I have no musical ability and really admire those that can play any instrument.

Here is a link I've posted before to a friend's website where he talks about taking up the bagpipes in his thirties and learning how to play. There's lots of information for pipers of all levels as well as a competetion log he has been keeping.

I've been to his site Panache (followed a link you put up elsewhere some time back.) I found it VERY inspirational. I love the story of how his grandfather first "earned" his pipes.
