I seem to recall a post a while back about pet peeves and this is one of mine: It's called The Marines Hymn and not The Marine Corps Hymn.

That being said, I love hearing it on pipes. I wanted to get my band to play it for Memorial Day but the pipe major said she doesn't like to do the same songs that everyone else plays. Then we struck up another round of Scotland The Brave...

I'll admit to being a fan of a higher-tempo version of the Hymn... it adds a bit of urgency and some extra energy to the tune which fits in perfect with the Corps.
I play it as a funeral processional at a slow march; it's quite well received by Corps vets.

I don't recall ever personally hearing it played as such, but I can imagine it'd be extremely powerful.

Alot of people don't know this but it's the only song out the US Forces that fits perfectly on
    the pipes.

Semper Paratus works quite well, too.

PiobBear, do you happen to have available any recordings of the slower version of the Hymn, or perhaps know somewhere where it's featured the way you play it? I've been intrigued since you posted about it.

This is how the United States Marine Band does it at Arlington.
