Robert Burns ina reggae style. Celtic Reggae

If you're a fan of Robert Burns and you like your music with a funky reggae beat then you must check out the songs on this player.

http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/1410117

Mike Ogletree of Simple Minds, and a Burns Country native, has composed, performed and produced a very interesting mash-up of Scottish words and rhymes, as penned by the great Robert Burns, skillfully blended with the rhythms and feels of funky, reggae music.

His Green Grow The Rashes O will have you singing and dancing in your seat as will a catchy rendition of the unabridged Auld Lang Syne. Taking on and skillfully interpreting some of Burns less famous works like the beautiful Bonie Lesley, Mike demonstrates the sing-ability and flexibility of Burns words and just how easily they adapt to modern rhythms and melodies.

After releasing his first solo CD late last year titled The Kilmarnock Edition the above songs from Mike's new CD are available for free download from this player.

I just finished listening to them all and they are great. I just need to download them now. That rendition of Auld Lang Syne was wonderful.

I really like it! Funny though I was listening to Jim Malcolm's Songs of Robert Burns as I came to this thread. Many a Scot was sent to Jamaica, so a Reggie adoption of old songs is easy to comprehend.

I liked it. I didn't think I would, and I did. I must have quit getting old.

Here's an excerpt of a PM I sent to Mike (aka Blaxcot) a little while back:

Quote:
I *finally* got a chance to sit down and check out your music: fantastic! I think you've got a wonderfully refreshing take on Burns. It's very hard to pick a favorite (Green Grow the Rashes, Red Red Rose, To A Mouse, A Man's A Man, Where Are They Now, Scots Wha Hae, Don't Dance Alone, etc., etc....)

The sound of "Red Red Rose" -- neat video, btw -- and "Don't Dance Alone" reminds me quite a bit of New Order/Bernard Sumner -- which is offered (and hopefully received) as a great compliment.

My wife and I also *really* like "Righetous Wind" -- you had us singing and dancing in front of the computer the other night. My wife's in her church choir and we were both thinking it would be a great song for them to do some Sunday morning.
