Rampant Lion BBQ - Arlington, TX

Below is information on the 6th Annual Rampant Lion BBQ & Picnic in Arlington, TX. It's cohosted by the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games E-Group and Clan Gunn. It's growing every year. What started out as around 10 folks with a grill and a cd player has turned into around 100 people with many pits and grills and live music. Lots of kilts and tartans!

    Details:
Announcing! The Sixth Annual Rampant Lion Picnic & BBQ for the
Celtic Community of North Central Texas. This event is for
the whole family, entire clans and anyone with a Celtic
Connection! Please bring a meat to share, or a main dish.
We will be cooking those items right in the park.
(Chief Cooks this year will be Terry McMabry, Ben Johnson &
Chuck ‘Cowboy’ Newell) The formula we have used in the past
seems to work well, which is to bring enough food for your
family plus 1 or 2 more. Also, it may take a wee
bit longer to cook the food than you’re used to.. but as the people
will tell you from past years… it’s worth the wait! Come early – stay
late! We have the park reserved the entire day, so please don’t
feel you have to rush off!

Here are some suggested meats that have been brought in years past:

Brisket, Shish-Ka-Bobs, Grillin’ Veggies, Pork Fingers, Chicken, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, etc. The point being, bring what you want to eat and share… be creative!

Also, other foods that have been a hit: Short bread, cookies, Potato Salad, Beans, Fruit trays, veggie trays, cheese trays, deviled eggs and things to munch on!

Things you could bring with you:
    1. Your food items to share
    2. A Card Table, Picnic Cloths (if you have them)
    3. Camp chairs or blankets (plenty of nice grass to spread them on)
    4. Citronella candles and/or insect repellants
    5. Beverages for your family
    6. Ice Chests / Ice
    7. Frisbees, Outdoor games, Horseshoes? Volleyball? Croquet?
    8. Cups, Plates, Utensils, etc.
    9. Anything Celtic! Tartan and Clan banners, Rampant Lion and Scottish Flags

    Ye Olde Directions:

Fielder Park, 1100 S Fielder RD, Arlington, TX 76013

The easiest approach from Fort Worth or Dallas is I-30 to the Fielder Road exit. Turn south on Fielder and follow it all the way across town. The park is on the right about a half (short) block after you cross Mitchell, which is the street the TSF & HG is on. (Maverick Stadium) There is a large elementary school directly opposite.

For those from south Fort Worth and Dallas or from out of town, I-20 might be a better approach. Take the Bowen Road exit and go north to Park Row. Turn right on Park Row, and then left on Fielder. The park will be on your left about a block from Park Row. If you get that close, we wouldn’t be hard to find, just look for at least three white tents and a bunch of Scottish banners.

Note: Mitchell changes names when it crosses Fielder, on the west side it’s called “Raydon Drive”…why no one knows. The street leading into the park is Scenic Drive. (dead ends on Fielder) So the park is between Scenic and Raydon (Mitchell), on the west side of Fielder Road.
