    ROKS (Colorado) Burns Night

    OK here goes:
First, we like all of the best regions of the country need a "club name" so I propose Rocky Mountain Owners of Kilts and Sundries : ROKS what do you think?

Second: We need to organize or participate in a front range Burns Supper. I stopped by Thistle & Shamrock today and asked him if he knew of any Suppers being organized and he handed me a flyer for the St Andrews Society of Colorado.
He said he may get additional notifications as the date gets closer and that this one would be "best you got" and not strictly formal.
The St Andrews dinner will be the 24th at the Wildlife Experience [Lincoln Ave & Parker] and it looks like $50 a plate. Additional details here: http://www.coloradoscots.com/

Or we could try and organize something for ourselves which seems like a daunting prospect to me.

Does anyone have better/ different/ other options? It would be great if we could get a LARGE contingent of the Colorado X Markers together.
    cheers
    John

Wish we could have started working on this earlier. With the amount Joyce and I are spending for our anniversary the next weekend, that would be a little steep for us. We would be interested if there is a gathering somewhere else.

I love the name! That works perfectly for one of the best places in the country.

I'd like to go to a supper. I do have a bit of a problem though. The only formal wear I own is my tuxedo that I got for my orchestra uniform. Would a tux jacket work fine with a kilt? ( probably no! ) Also, my Nightstalker sporran is great for carrying things, and it does look like a sporran for the most part, but the zippers, in my opinion, keep it well below formal.

Then again, if someone could spare a jacket to fit a toothpick like me, and maybe a dress sporran, for a night, I'd would nearly definitely be there!

First off, I second the name - it's a good one!

Second, unfortunately, with the cost of our wedding coming up and having to fix my car's head gasket, I wouldn't be able to do a $50 dinner, even though I'll have a very nice Argyll jacket & vest from Rocky in the mail soon. My vote would be for another get-together altogether, unless there's a rabble Burns night at the pub!

My bad, I missed that part.

All in favor or ROKS say, Aye.

    Aye.

And, like IrishColoradoan, if we can do a ROKS rabble Burns night at the pub, we'll be spending that night at home.

Ach!! Aye!! I'll go for ROKS.

Also... $50 a plate is a tad rich for my blood. I vote for a ROKS-specific Burns Supper myself.

    ROKS Redirect

Thanks for the support on the name

$50 seemed a bit steep to me as well but having not "done" a Burns night before I have no frame of reference.

I searched for Pubs doing suppers and none of the suspects were advertising that they were doing one. I tried Scottish and found a new Scottish Pub in Boulder so I emailed them to see if they were doing a supper and they are: also $50 for four courses, drinks etc.

That being said; the rabble seems to prefer a lower key event and since someone posted a thread with this link: http://www.burnssupper2009.com/default.aspx which offers a "do it yourself kit" including the requisite liturgy . So I propose [take two]......

Location: Pint Pub [live ales and 1 or 2 Whiskys ]
    Date: 24 Jan.
Time: 6 pm an early start for an early finish [Murphys law dictates that I am working that weekend ]
Attire: Kilts as dressed up as you can do

If we get 6 or 7 people firmly committed I will get the "Do it Yourself Burns Supper" kit and try and find a Haggis.
    cheers

I love Pints Pub! Yet I may have a problem in going on the 24th. A possible other engagement has been proposed to me yesterday. It may not come to fruition as other people are involved and other dates have been mentioned.
