    Tartan Week in NYC 2008

Though we're still working on gathering for St. Patrick's Day (see that thread if interested), it's also time to start thinking of how to celebrate Tartan Week here. It'll be my first since joining this forum!

The parade will take place on Saturday, April 5th, starting at 2 P.M. at 45th Street and Sixth Avenue (near St. Andrew's Pub) and marching up the Avenue to 58th Street. This year Lawrence Tynes of the NY/NJ Giants will honored as the Grand Marshall. He is the first Scottish-born player in the NFL.

Should we try to meet that day? If so, should all of us go together to one of the post-parade parties? I went to Stout's last year for this and had a BLAST.

I'm up for it. I've been looking forward to Tartan Week since I moved to the NY area last fall. Wiser souls will have to enlighten me as the complications of crowds and such, and whether we can hone a plan that will take us by paths of least resistance, but I'd like to see us do something.

Count me in! And of course, we have to do the after party at Stout.

I'll probably be at Stouts after the parade but I'll be working during the day.

Are they selling tickets to get into there, as they did last year?

    Here's the official website:
    http://www.tartanweek.com/
I've been watching it and they keep updating as the time gets closer.

BTW, this will also be my first time attending the Tartan Day Parade. I see there are many other Tartan Week events besides the parade. A while back I heard someone mention a pre-parade brunch. Is that the same as the "Kirkin of the Tartan'? Also, anybody interested in attending any of the other events that week?

The Kirkin of the Tartan takes place at the Presbyterian Church on Park Ave., the morning of the parade. The brunch is right after the service, but it hasn't been completely set as of yet.

Tickets for the post parade party at Stout are now on sale.

From the website: This year's cost is $30 - this is non-refundable. The cut off date for ordering tickets is March 24th. We will have great bands as usual including direct from Scotland - The Tartan Specials. Order now - this sells out every year.
