Another Houston boy in the Fray

It appears Houston is well represented on this forum .

I do not have a kilt as of yet, but my wife, a Lang by birth, has hinted more than once about me getting one. So, I guess its time for me to learn a little more about them.

Glad to be here guys. Looking forward to learning from the masters.

**Where would I be able to find the print for my wife's family? I know the Lang's of her family were Scots, but not sure from where exactly. I can dig a little and find out i suppose.

    Hi, Andy –
as a Texan you certainly qualify to wear the Texas Blue Bonnet tartan.
As for your wife’s family – and your parents’, for that matter – the place to start with a family tree is where you are.
Write down your own details – full names, date of birth, place of birth (you have no idea how important this becomes), date of marriage, birthdates and full names of children.
Certificates, if you have them or can track them down, are vital information.
Do the same for your wife.
Then go back a generation and write down the same details about your parents and hers.
Then you go back a further generation.
Step by step you can build up a family tree that you can rely on.
It’s no good grabbing wildly at some possible ancestor who arrived from Scotland or wherever on the shores of your country in 16-whatever and hoping that you are a descendant.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Mike

Welcome. Mike's advice is spot on. For the record, the Lang name is associated with both the Gordons and the MacDonalds. You would need to know where her family lived in Scotland to claim an association with one of those clans. On the other hand, you could look at the tartan choices and pick the one you like best!
