Children's kilt sock knitting patterns

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a pattern for children's size kilt socks? I have tried many sources here in Scotland but seems like a well kept secret. I have a pattern for mens socks with various designs including thistles and stags but it would take some time to adjust this for children aged between 6mths and 5 years. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

My wife is knitting a pair for our oldest son as we speak. She's just using a basic sock pattern for the hose itself, and is adding a patterned cuff. (Yes, I'll post pictures when she is done).

Welcome from another (admittedly amateur) kilt hose knitter!

Making them for kids would seem dead easy -- their legs shouldn't require any shaping, right? But it sounds as if Matt's wife is your best resource/voice of experience. I'm just amazed at the concept of taking the time to make them when you know they'll be grown out of so quickly. . .

Contact JoanMac. She's on Harris, and sells many different kilt hose patterns that have been handed down in her family for several generations. She has bairns, and I'm sure she knits hose for them. She can help.

Thanks for your help, yes it seems like a dark art! Thanks Matt, I will have a lookout for your posts. I buy kilt hose from a guy who gets them exhire for my second hand kids kilt business. But the sizes tend to be large, hence my reason to look for a pattern. I have a couple of eager friends and sister in laws happy to knit to a pattern for me. I will give it a go too. Do you know JoanMac's full name and what part of Harris she comes from? My sister communtes to Lewis for the holidays from Glasgow and maybe knows someone that knows her as we have relatives in Harris.

Ravelry probably has something that can help. I would look at a pattern for adult hose and reduce everything. Having not made hose yet I don't know how possible this is. Good luck and let us know.
