    Greetings from Louisville!

I am also a newbie to this website and Scottish heritage in general. I am learning to play the bagpipes and have been involved with Celtic reenactment in the SCA for over a year. My SCA persona is late sixth century Irish Pictish. I recently saw my first women's highland games and have been inspired to become an athlete myself. I have been searching the web for hours looking for information to get me started in training and proper attire. It wasn't until I found this website that my inquires were answered. I am looking forward to all the knowledge I will gain and share on this forum. If there's anyone in the Kentuckiana area who has any advice for heavy athletes starting out or who know of any athletes practicing in area please let me know.

    -Kristina

Hello, and welcome! Hope you find all the information you've been looking for and good luck with the bagpipes and Highland Games training! I know a lot of people in the SCA -- looks like a lot of fun. I'd thought about getting involved, but things didn't work out for me at the time, and I really won't be able to be a regular. Maybe down the road I'll attend a few events here and there when I have the chance.

    Best wishes!

KThomas, Welcome to Xmarks from a native Louahvillian. I'm the current Pipe Sergeant of the Louisville Pipe Band. Judging from your avatar, I'd guess you're learning with the Fire & Rescue band.

As far as Highland athletics, I'm sure you've heard of Kerry Overfelt, the 2009 National Champion? He lives and trains in Bardstown. Just last month, he hosted a Highland Games at the Wickland estate in Bardstown. Do a web search for Kerry and you'll find his email address.

Best of luck in your future endeavors.
