    Greetings from SE Wisconsin!

    Greetings, all!

I am looking forward to the arrival of my AmeriKilt, my first foray into the kilted state. In the meantime, of course, I am torturing myself by surfing the web looking at photos of kilts!

Eventually I would like to own a formal kilt in the Ross tartan. I already have a waistcoat, which I wear at Christmas time, not least because it looks so good with my clerical collar.

The Patiences, on my father's side, trace their ancestry back to a couple of Portuguese sailors shipwrecked off the Spanish Armada and washed up on the Black Isle near Inverness. The McColls, on my mother's side, are from the Isle of Mull.

Look forward to participating in the forum.

Welcome from the Upper Peninsula! I am sure you will enjoy this forum and your kilt. Wear it proudly and often. I did the same thing before I got my black Survival Utilikilt - kept looking at pictures of them. We'll be looking to hear your comments and thoughts after you get your kilt.

    DALE.

Wow, did your family actually trace back to that, because it's a really interesting family story.

    Dave:

We have genealogies dating from the time Patiences appeared in Avoch on the Black Isle, and a strong "family story" about the sailors (who were named Patience and Jack, as are most of the residents of Avoch to this day).

While I haven't seen the Portuguese genealogies, I have noted in some books about Scotland that a regional dialect has some Portuguese influences.

    Bubba:

Our best friends live in Appleton, so perhaps we can meet some day.

    Thanks for the welcome!
