Thanks, lovely area of the country, worked from Yeovilton covering the south west from Hampshire, through Gloucester to Cornwall for 10 years, so have a reasonable knowledge of the area.

Thanks, took my first road trip to America a couple of years ago, the usual Vegas to SF, but with detours through Big Bear, LA, Monterey Bay and a few other unusual places. If the pound bounces back I may do a different route through the mountains to Reno next time, absolutely stunning area of the world.

I used to say "bl**dy Americans, saying every thing is bigger in the USA", I came back from that holiday and openly admitted that you are right, everything is bigger and its sobering to realise our little country is smaller than most of your states.

I have to admit I'm a little bit blasť about the rockery as I've lived within a mile of them for so long, I've driven past them thousands of times for work, and when in the military ran/walked the dog past them hundreds of times. On the positive side i have seen them glowing pink in the sunrise and that was a stunning view.
The new museum has made a huge improvement to the whole experience and when combined with some of the other history of the area it's worth a visit. Avebury is nice to visit as the stones surround the village and the road weaves through them, so really accessible to visitors.

They have just agreed to do the tunnel for the road past the henge and that will improve things when it's finished, probably 5 years of work, but will totally change the experience.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome, from Inverness-shire. Although as I type this, I am probably no more than a mile from you!
