    Kilt Waist & Tummy measurements

Hi there, I have been on this site lots over the last year and never get around to posting.

I have really been struggling. I have made my first Kilt, a Weatherred Maclean of Duart military pleat number. I think though, I may be a freak. I have a waist of 36 and hips of 38. I assumed that I had misread and had various people confirm this. Barb's book doesn't seem to allow for such freak like measurements. I can't decide if it because I have a huge belly (which I really don't!) or no bum at all!

How on earth do you share the measurements?

When I wear my sporran it seems to give me a funny little pokey out belly thing over the sporran strap which I never see in anyone elses photos. Have I not backed the kilt with thick enough canvas or something?

I wish Barb did kilt making seminars over here in England...does anyone know of anyone else who might instead?

    Cheers

    Andrew Maclean

Welcome to our little corner of the Web.

Can you show us a pic of you in your Kilt. Perhaps we could understand and better advise.

from Chicago. On the belly thing. If I understand correctly, when you wear your sporran, your belly pooches out between the belt and the sporran. If I've described the problem correctly, one solution is to use sporran hangers instead of a sporran belt. In the picture below, I'm the guy in the red shirt on the left. My sporran is suspended from my belt by two sporran hangers.

    Andrew,

It could just be that you are wearing your sporran too low. Try raising it up higher so that it doesn't hang below your belly.
