New member and hobby tartan designer from Canada

Hi everyone. I'm a new member to your forum and live in Western Canada. I own two skirts (I'm female), one long for formal occasions, and one shorter for daytime wear. They were custom-made for me by the talented weavers at Scotweb. I have always loved tartans, and when I look around my house, I see throws, place mats, curtains etc. with various tartan designs. Even my cat sleeps on a Dress Stewart blanket! For the last six months I have been having a wonderful time creating new tartan patterns with the online "Tartan Designer" at the Scotweb website. Please check out the following to see what I mean: http://www.scotweb.co.uk/tartandesig..._content=story The online designer is very easy to use but technically sophisticated at the same time. Your designs can immediately be enlarged to see what they would look like as a fabric, and suggestions are made to make them suitable for a kilt. You are all invited to check out my designs, (there are pages of them). Please go to the link above, click on "Advanced Search" and type "Amble". Please look at other designers also - "Chuck" and "Gregory Tulloss of Gunn" have many beautiful designs too. Any of these can be ordered and woven into fabric for a kilt or personal use, and you can even go as far as officially recording your design! You have the option to share your designs with others, or keep them hidden to only yourself if you plan on registering them. The more designers we can inspire, the better and more interesting the Tartan Designer will become. So, with that, I say "Hello" to your "Community of Kiltwearers". You seem to exchange lots of great information and enthusiasm. ***Amble*****

Hello Amble,

Welcome to XMTS. I'm quite familiar with the tartan designer and think it's a pretty amazing gadget. Earlier this year I posted a review of both the designer itself and the resulting product. I've seen your designs at Scotweb, and some of them are rather pretty and more successful than others. I know what a thrill it can be to have something conjured up in your head come to reality. If you've had any of your tartans actually woven, we'd love to see them. There's a thread here for designs that made it off the loom. Post an image of your design followed by a photo of your tartan in person.

Regards,
Rex.
