Smile Scots-Irish Hillbilly Transplant Kilt Newbie in Phoenix

Due to an opportunity to speak at a professional convention in Edinburgh this summer I will be spending two full weeks in Scotland exploring a bit of my very distant Scots-Irish heritage. I have decided to dive headlong into the kilted community and not only try out a kilt but actually try wearing nothing but kilts for the whole two weeks I am there (well, I will be wearing shirts and socks and jackets and such, too). So I have purchased three nice custom kilts in my Forrester Modern family tartan, MacDonald Ancient (the clan of which we are a sept), and Black Isle (I just think it looks great for the dressy all black and grey look), as well as Argyll jackets and vests in black barathea and grey tweed, along with a broad variety of shirts, hats, ties, socks, and accessories in clan crest whenever available. Although I have worn my first kilt around the house a bit just to try it out my first public showing will likely be at the Arizona Highland Games in a couple weeks since I live here in Phoenix. Eagerly looking forward to being a member of the kilted community, and thanks in advance to all who I know will help guide me toward the "un-bifurcated" way of life. As an avid photographer I will be posting pictures as my courage slowly rises to an appropriate level.

Where exactly are you a transplant from? I currently reside among the "Mountain Williams" in the Missouri Ozarks.

My Dad was born in Prescott, btw, and my grandparents lived in North Phoenix for many years (35th & Peoria)...

from a native Phoenician & full-time kilt wearer!

Wow, sounds like you really have taken the plunge! I think you'll really appreciate the extra ventilation a kilt affords during our hot summer weather.

There'll be a number of us XMTS members or members of the local kilt-wearer group, The Sonoran Scotsmen, at the Phoenix Games. We're planning on meeting at the on-site Pub (wherever that will be) after the opening ceremonies on the 23rd. Please stop by & introduce yourself - we'll look forward to meeting you!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
