cant help you on the hose topic, as i only have hose from sportkilt and the ones im making myself.

but welcome from Oregon, formerly from Brockton, MA. not sure where you are located in Mass but if your up on the northshore be sure to check out Celtic Isles, in Westford (www.inakilt.com) a great little scottish shop with many things scottish and irish. the gentleman who works there might be able to help you in your search for some hose.

    Welcome from Nova Scotia.

As for argyle hose, I can suggest Kilkeel in Northern Ireland at http://www.kilkeeldancinghose.co.uk/
Don't let the name turn you away, Kilkeel makes tartan hose for everyone. There's also Henderson Hose in Scotland http://www.familytraits.co.uk/socks_page.html

Many of the highland attire companies use one or both of the above vendors. I know for a fact that MacIsaacs Kilts here in NS does and charges the customer double when you can just contact the companies directly.

In the US there's http://www.bonnietoes.com/. Again, although her main market is for dancers, argyle hose is what they wear and I know she will knit hose for others. Bonnie will also dye yarn to match your tartan.
