What may be a silly question

Hey, I'm an african american getting ready to buy my first kilt, and I wondered if that's just a little to wierd. Do you have to be scottish to wear one, or is it enough to have a scottish last name?(mine's Maxwell)

Not weird at all. We have kilt wearing people of many ethnicities and races running around here. Asian, Spanish, French, Brazilian, Russian, Norwegian, Dutch, ... it just keeps going

The kilt transcends many barriers for those with the kilted heart

Welcome and no you don't - though you bear an famous name from the Borders and that should be good enough for anyone.

Years ago, I met a young man in the Bahamas who spoke with the grandest Scottish accent and was named Mac - something or other. If he had worn a kilt instead of shorts I would never have questioned his right to do so.

We have several guys in the NY Metro rabble who are African-American, but they do have Scottish heritage.

I, on the other hand, have none! though I do have a Celtic connection.

So I say, wear a kilt in good health if you appreciate it.

My only question is how is a guy with two kids a monk?
