Wondering if there are any other "Yoopers" here?
Hey gang!
Just wanted to say my first hello to everyone and introduce myself. I'm a 29 year old graduate student at Indiana University studying Central Asian history, but I hail from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That's right - I'm a "Yooper". Anyway, the initial reason I joined this community is because I have a question about the Irish brath. Does anyone know if the brath as worn by Irish Defence Force pipers is essentially of the same construction as a fly plaid, just folded rectangularly? Is the fringing on all four sides or just two, what are the dimensions, etc. - and where might I obtain one?
Thanks!
Joseph

Welcome Aboard Hermes, sorry I can't answer your question concerning braths. And I'm sorry to say that I am not a "Yooper" either, your title intrigued me which led me to find out what a "Yooper" is. I'm sure someone on this forum will answer your question, tons of experts on here. Again, welcome aboard from the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

Yooper -- a resident of the UP, or Upper Peninsula of Michigan, or someone who wears a Stormy Kromer while enjoying their Vernors.

Hello and welcome, not a Yooper but grew up in Saginaw Michigan and have been up to the U.P. on several occasions. Hope someone more intelligent than I can help answer your question.

Welcome from Lancashire, England. I'm not a Yooper myself, but my grandmother was. I also spent a lot of time in the UP as a kid and I wear the aforementioned Stormy Kromer cap.

Ahhh--if not for the "resident of the UP" the rest could apply to any son or daughter of the Great Lake State :-)
I THINK we consider Yoopers to be a separate and distant ethnicity. A cross between Michigander, Wisconsinite and Canadian--fond of saying youbetcha, dontchaknow, eh? all whilst gleefully downing hot pasties, fighting black flies in the summer (2 and 1/2 months long) and playing hockey the rest of the year.
How'd I do Brother Yooper???
Grand to see you here!
