    Rough Wool Kilt Hose

Many years ago i could get very nice hard spun wool (sort of like rag-wool) knee socks at ski shops where i bought cross-country ski gear. At that time the standard for x-country sking was wool knickers and knee socks. I would love to get a couple more pair like this for hiking and outdoor sports kilted.

All the kilt hose I see now has a much more formal and finished appearence and is way more expensive.

    Any suggestions?

Caringorm Scottish Imports in Toronto had basket full of hose a couple of years ago they billed them as winter hose and sold them for $10 a pair. I bought several pairs and find they really do work wonderfully for winter. Perhaps you could get in contact with them and see if they still have them. They have a homespun appearance and are a bit rougher than most commercial hose.

Look at the Cabela's wader socks...not exactly ragg wool but they have that effect.

I had a pair of these wool stockings from Jas. Townsend once:

I bought them thinking of winter wear. Turns out they were so warm I barely wore them, even during the winter! They are certainly long enough to work for kilt hose, though the cuff on them is very plain and not really designed to be turned over.

Not exactly what I was looking for but I found these at a local hunting store. They are solid and warm and a pleasant oatmeal colour. When the tops are folded down it covers the Bucksmark logo and leaves a nice cream cuff. I bought two pair for $20 each so should be covered for kilted outdoor activities again.
