Silver Cap Badge
Hi all,
Getting married in october, thought a silver cap badge, plaid brooch, and kilt pin (already have the silver kilt pin from a relative) might be a nice touch for my outfit and something that could then be handed on later.... Obviously these might be a bit pricey, anyone got any recommendations for who does the best quality/detail work.... seen a few different options but would rather keep and open mind and hear from experience first.
Cheers..

Re: Silver Cap Badge
I got a nice sterling silver custom one from STM a year or so ago when they first got them as a new stock item---beautiful engraved motto rather than just die cast. Exquisitely crisp design and finish. Sorry no photos except from a distance, but there are nice close up examples on the STM website:

A true heirloom quality clan badge. Really kicks the butt of my pewter die cast versions. Very glad I took the plunge, and will never look back.

Re: Silver Cap Badge
If you've got the green to drop, you probably can't go wrong with Ian Grant.

I've had marvellous success with them. Not necessarily all that dearish, but a long way from being inexpensive either.

Yes, I went to the site and was surprised at the costs - what I purchased earlier was much more reasonable.

Re: Silver Cap Badge
The first thing I would look at is customs duty - it might just be too expensive to buy abroad.

No, at a couple of hundred customs is no problem - only an issue if its over 1000

As with most things in life you get great value if you buy used. Go to ebay and type in iona silver. Have a look. Works by John Hart, Robert Allison. Nice stuff. I have several cap badges / brooches I use.

Re: Silver Cap Badge
Roddy Young of Inverness, Garth Duncan of Skye, or Ian Grant of Edinburgh are my suggestions. The clan badges are all hand-made by those men, who are reputable silversmiths in their own right. The badges are made of hallmarked sterling silver, so they are not inexpensive, but they are well made. Have a look!
