    Wanted: Used equipment for games

I have been entertaining the possibility of entering the amateur highland games competitions, and watching the recent events at Highlands Ranch, CO solidified my desire. Would like a source for used training gear or a nudge in the right direction. I am not a large man (165lbs), so I would be competing with scaled-down weights/cabers, but willing to train with the heavies. Any thoughts?

There are no weight classes so you'll compete using the same weights everyone else does (with the exception of caber, they usually use a larger caber for the A's, at least down here).

You may end up having to diy most of your stuff. But you can never go wrong with finding a landscaping shop and picking up a 20 pound stone to do drills with. Also, www.ironmind.com sells ring handles for about $20 that you can have a welder affix to any weight to give you your throwing weights. You can make your own trig, and get cones (for marking distance), and spray chalk (for marking the trig borders) from any sports shop.

Here's some other links to DIY'ing equipment: http://www.ehow.com/way_5754701_home...ing-tools.html

Your best bet is to find some locals that throw. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that throws up that way.
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

Thanks for the advice! I had pretty much figured on doing that after considering the nutty shipping costs of used equipment.
In the middle of the country (like Colorado) I believe that they do sometimes provide a "lightweight" class for throwers under 190lbs.
