| | | ABU digital tiger
Here's my latest effort: Air Force ABU digital tigerstripe in poly/cotton fresh off the sewing table.
And the money shot:
14 knife pleats, 3" deep with 1.5" reveal.
Next up: a new ACU for myself since my 15-year-old has commandeered my other one. It was a bit short for me, so I gave it to him. Sobering to know that I only had to move the velcro tabs about 3" for it to fit him perfectly. My baby is growing up.

That looks great, Bill. Is it an unmodified X kilt? If so I need to make myself one. A lot of modern kilts don't hang like traditional kilts. That one does. It must be the full width apron.

Bill,
That looks like a great kilt for hiking!
What is the patch?
Cheers
Jamie

Jay, I've strayed so far from the X-Kilt instructions at this point that it isn't really fair to call it that. It's my own flavor of kilt, incorporating X-Kilt, trad techniques from Barb's book, and some tips I picked up from Steve Ashton. It is nowhere near the quality of a Freedom kilt, but for hiking and knocking about, it works well. I can bang one out in about 7 hours. The aprons are indeed full width, and the pleats are regular knife pleats rather than box pleats.
Going into the woods with regular kilt pins is asking for trouble, so I took a page from the new military uniforms and put a patch of loop-side Velcro on the over apron. I use a hot glue gun to add hook-side Velcro to the back of whatever I want to use as a "kilt pin".

Digital tiger stripe is the new pattern that the USAF adopted about a year ago if I'm not mistaken. The fabric I have even says that right on the selvedge.

Nice work Bill I wonder how long it'll take before Madbagpiper wants that one too.

Oh, he's a bit of a kilt snob. If it ain't tartan, he's not interested. Its my youngest son that loves the alternate fabrics. He's my real hiking and camping buddy these days.
Yeah...that's ice.
