| | | Another Boot Thread...
Hey guys, new to X Marks, found the place while looking for new boots to wear with my kilt.
I currently wear a UK Survival. I live in Montana, and usually wear my hiking boots, some Montrail olive and black boots that work pretty well, but I like the look of a taller lace up boot.
So I found some that I like the look of here http://www.vanderbilts.com/search.as...ID=1039&Page=1
The question I have is what the 11" or 8" refers to on the boot description. From where to where is the measurement taken. THis would help in figuring out an idea of where the boot comes to on the leg since the pictures don't have a model wearing them for scale.
Thanks guys!

I have a pair of packers that are roughly like the ones you have linked to - I would never wear them with my kilts - even with the UK's - because I just think they have totally the wrong proportions. They just come up too high to go with scrunched down hose, and too low to be hot.
To answer your question, I believe that is the distance measured from the heel (not the floor) to the top of the boot.
Regards,
Rex.

Here is a pic of me in 8 or 9 inch logger boots (can't remember)
Pardon the lean. I couldn't find a level spot to set the camera.

Here's a recent pic of me in my UK mocker with a pair of Carolina loggers. They measure 7" from the top of the heel to the top of the boot.
Excuse the awkward stance, I only got halfway off the barstool before the picture was taken.

The previous posters are correct, the 8" and 11" measurement is the height of the boot. More inches = higher boot = more lace eyelets. 8" boots are fairly standard, for casual kilt attire I wear 8" tactical side-zip boots in black, and they look great with a causal tartan kilt or a UK.

I had a feeling that 8" was the way to go. My hiking boots are 6" boots and look good, but aren't quite tall enough. When it has just snowed (which is often in Montana) I wear my sorrels which come up to mid calf or more, and it works out pretty well for keeping me warm, and looks pretty good too, but are obviously too clunky for daily wear.
SO I think something like the Wolverine Chesapeake is the direction I am going to go.

Did anybody notice that the Vanderbilt's page search category was Kiltie Lacers? Pretty cool, eh? I know it probably refers to the little fringe at the bottom of the laces, but kilt related none-the-less.

Yes, the term "kiltie" does stem from the fringe at the bottom of the laces. This is also true of other shoes, many of whick are called "kilted".
This all comes from the gaelic "kilt" which means pleat, and is also why we call the the most manly (and pleated) man garb out there the "kilt".

I've taken to sporting my work boots with my UK. They're 9" plain black boots. They look pretty good with my "anti-fatigue" socks pushed down around the boot top. They take some abuse at punk concerts, as well..
