For roaming around outdoors at a music festival in a campground on warm days and nights, I go sans hose.

In chill or dampness or rain, wool hose answers better than cotton -- either up, or scrunched down over boots.

But at mid-60’s (F) temps with high humidity and intermittent (duck out of it) rain, cotton hose does just fine.
