Hiking kilt?

There was mention made of a new hiking kilt from Amerikilts. I keep checking the website and still don't see anything. Anybody have any gossip or news about it?

Hi,

Below is the message I got from AKAussie who spoke to Michael about the hiking kilt, Although he is not selling it on line you might try emailing him or giving him a call. I don't know how old this info is.

I'm glad everything worked out.

We call our newest design the Hikers' Kilt.
It is the same basic kilt design but we've changed and/or added a
couple details.
Our detachable sporran is now located on the side (right or left -
there are D rings on each side) - because our research showed
that long distance hikers we not comfortable with the sporran on
the front.
We've removed the back wallet pocket. Again, our research
revealed that wallets are usually stowed somewhere else on the
trail - not a back pocket. It makes for a much cleaner line - no
pocket flap interuptions.
The Hikers' Kilt closure system is completely different than our
Traditional Style AmeriKilt. We've removed the six snaps on the
upper nd lower apron and widened the lower apron - this allows
complete range of motion with confidence and security. We've
introduced an extra wide, heavy duty hook and loop panel on the
left side of the waistband to affix the top left side of the approns -
you then wrap the top apron to the right side and secure it with a
built-in 1.5in web belt with 2 locking D rings.
Pricing for the Hikers' Kilt will be $115.

So far, we've shown and sold them only at the festivals we attend
and we are getting an excellent response to our efforts
As it is our busiest time of the year I haven't given the website the
attention I should. That will soon change.

Thanks for buying AmeriKilt!

Hope this helps mate Cheers Andrew

I recently ask ... about this Hikers Kilt and got the following answer:

>> We have not put our Hikers Kilt on our website as yet. I
>> hope to have it up soon.
>> Colors available are olive green, black, brown, tan, dark
>> blue denim and tiger stripe camo. Price for AKHiker is $115.
>> plus shipping.

He offered me a blue denim AmeriKilt (I ask him about a dark blue Amerikilt) and would have buy one if I don't have to spend a verly large amount of money into a unforeseen car repair.
I thought I told You about the blue denim AmeriKilt because it is not shown on their webpage either.

Now I'm waiting for the Hikers Kilt to be put on their webpage and in the meantime feed my piggy bank.

Anybody already owns a Amerikilt Hikers Kilt

There are pictures of the Hikers Kilt on the Amerikilt gallery. Does someone in this forum already own a Amerikilt Hikers Kilt? I'm interested in your experiences.

The Hikers Kilt is not offered at the Amerikilt website yet. But some must have bought one at a fair. Michael answered my mail, writing "We are still experimenting with design and materials."

It looks like a very decent kilt. I wonder what is taking so long for Michael to put it on the website. The lines look clean and have a more tradtional look. It probably looks good with a more traditional sporran as well.

RE: Hiker's Kilt

Greetings. I am new to the forum and admittedly still learning, but I bought and Amerikilt at the PA Celtic fling this past summer and he had the hiker's kilts with him. Both my oldest son and I are avid backpackers, so we were eying the hiker's kilt but both of opted for the traditional (absolutely great on the hikes we went on and when the rest of the group were moaning about we shorts the morning after hiking in the rain all day, he and I were comfortable and dry). I'm tempted to eventually get the hiker's model, I just liked the traditional style better. Same with my son. The hiker style looks to be very versatile with being able to move the sporran around and all, and the built in belt was a nice feature. But, in the end, I liked the traditional better and have loved it ever since.

Verlyn,

Welcome to this wonderful world of mayhem!

Both tartan and the Amerikilts have their advantages, and you are finding out about them on this forum. Something about the tartan that makes you feel really great in wearing, but I too have felt the same pride while wearing a plain kilt (Utilikilt)

I've seen the hiker's version at a hiker festival, and the only negative comment I have about it is that the D-rings will chafe under the hip belt of a backpack. If you're just doing day hiking, the sporran on the side makes sense, but it'll hurt if you wear them for long-distance hiking. As anyone who backpacks knows, anything on the hips hurts under the hip belt of a pack - belt loops, bunchy elastic waistbands, and so on. Maybe if the sporran attached via velcro straps, or snapped onto two cloth loops instead of D-rings....

Andrew.

Verlyn, welcome to the forum. I used to live and work in Mechanicsburg, up until about a year ago. Nice area of PA.
