    Kilt Suit

I was at the Highland Games - Stone Mtn last weekend. Saw the 21 century kilt booth. The booth mgr.(?) was in a kilt suit - cream colored linen kilt and suit coat. Great looking - very expensive. Anyone have one? know of a less expensive option?

Check out Hamish's album for photos of several different kilt suits he owns. I believe many/most of them are from Twenty-First Century Kilts.

Union kilts sells kilt/waistcoat 'uniforms' that look very sharp. They're not suits per se, but you might like them.

One of the kiltmakers that was at the Celtic Fest in Chicago a few weeks ago was wearing a brown pinstripe (BIG YELLOW PINSTRIPES!) kilt suit and it looked really awful. I suppose that my taste runs toward the traditional formal kilt look...de gustibus non est disputandum!

Auld, it justs goes to show "No accounting for taste" (or I have none, which my wife would probably agree with!), but I actually thought the pinstripe kilt and jacket looked very sharp and professional for business attire, especially in a more conservative industry like banking (which is what I have to deal with). I have had a very good acceptance to wearing the kilt, but if I had chosen to just "go for broke" and worn one to the office one day, I think that wearing one of the TFCK pinstripes, or other more formal materials, with a jacket, would make any arguments about the kilt being unprofessional a moot point!

Having said that, I honestly don't remember how wide the pinstripes were on that suit! Just thought it looked good. I also really liked their blue twill tank. I almost got a hernia lifting it off the rack!

and BTW, it was 21st Century Kilts at the Chicago Celtic festival, and I would guess probably the same gentleman.

Though unable to afford one-I've long admired the dark grey/black kilt suit offered by 21stC.

For it appears to offer the soberiety necessary for work, without the unnecessary flamboyance of the normal kilt : combined with the advantages the kilt.

That's right, Andrew. I have three TFCK kilt suits and there are photos of them in my album (link below).

The first (2000) was in bottle-green tweed. The next (2002) was a dark blue (not Navy) worsted suit, and the most recent (2003) is in a grey pinstripe worsted.

I wear these suits thesedays wherever, prior to foresaking trousers, I would have worn a business suit. For most of my working life I wore navy or grey pinstripe suits and I should have loved to have worn a kilt suit to work. Alas, I retired before Howie Nicholsby (TFCK) came up with the notion!

By the way, Howie has many photos of his kilt suits on his brand, spanking new website at www.21stcenturykilts.com
