I have found a great looking lower cut contemporary boot that works for both narrow and wide width shoe wearers. As the owner of wide feet, i find it sometimes hard to locate the proper shoes. These shoes (boots) made by Altama have an aggressive tread pattern and all leather uppers. Great for Highland Games or for casual day wear around town. I orderd them from a Army/Navy online dealer for less than $50 including delivery. The style is the Altama model 9225.

While I like that shoe, for me I like the solid black look along with the lower price. How is the durability of the v2? The altama boot is designed as an armed forces service boot and will hold up t heavy active wear.

Not a bad lookin' boot a'tall, especially for less than $50. A little to edgy for me, but I've been looking for a chukka/boot very similar to this (in brown though). I prefer a more rounded toe, too. I'm looking for something I can get resoled (no joy with Doc Martens), so I don't mind paying ~$100-150 if they'll last ten years (assuming a resole costs ~$30).

My ideal is the Clarks Roar, but the bloddy shoes don't fit me! Tried 'em in two different sizes, too; always slip in the heel. Luckily that site I ordered 'em from offers free shipping AND returns! Whew.

Another proud wide footed guy. Thanks for that info. I remain optimistic that some day, some shoemaker will make a ghillie brogue in sizes that include width options, and not just length.

Whatever happened to ghillie brogues sized for foot width too?

My wife got me a pair of these Born Harrison chukkas to go with my kilt and they immediately became my favorite shoes of all time. Unfortunately, Born seems to have discontinued them, but they are available at a number of places.

In the Navy we called those bundockers.

They will be a scarce species here as that uniform has been replaced and those aren't authorized.
